Jato C. Smith

Director of Photography

When Jato was just 6 years old, his mother complimented his photography skills, noting how still he could hold the camera. He’s been seeking approval through cinematography ever since.

In 2001 Jato entered NYU’s graduate film program for directing and cinematography. During his tenure at NYU he shot several short narratives, sharpening his filmmaking skills, making tons of rookie mistakes on others’ films and angering many of his peers.

Nevertheless, he rose above all that unfortunate pettiness to become perhaps the most viable DP available at the time of principal photography for THE GOOD HUSBAND and has shown himself to be actually quite good since then.

He is currently shooting on several projects, including a narrative feature and a documentary series for MTV. And he continues to try to hold the camera very, very still.
